We can provide wide degree flexibility on fiber pigtails, including single-mode, multimode and 10G 50/125um OM3 types, simplex fiber, 4 fibers, 6 fibers, 8 fibers, 12 fibers, 24 fibers, 48 fibers and so on. These fiber pigtails can be with fan-out kits and full compliant to Telcordia, EIA/TIA and IEC standards.

A fiber pigtail is typically a fiber optic cable with one end factory pre-terminated fiber connector and the other exposed fiber. It is usually suitable for field termination using a mechanical or fusion splicer. Compared with quick termination or epoxy and polish connections placed on the field site, the pre-terminated connectors provide time-saving, superior performance, and reliability.

Fiber Pigtail vs. Fiber Patch Cord: What Is the Difference?

  • Type fiber connectors. Fiber optic pigtails have only one terminated connector on one side. But fiber optic  patch cords have two or more pre-terminated connectors on each side. There are many types of fiber pigtails based on one different factor. Fiber connector types include LC pigtails, SC pigtails, ST pigtails, FC pigtails, MU pigtails, and E2000 pigtails. By fiber types, including single mode and mulitmode pigtails.

  • Diameter of fiber optic cable. Fiber optic pigtails typically are maked from 900μm diameter cable. However, the fiber patch cable are produced fiber cables, such as  2.0mm or 3.0mm fiber and 7.0mm.

  • Applications. Fiber optic pigtails are mainly for fast fusion splicing applications, while patch cords are for connectivity between optical transceivers, patch panels, and backbone networks.

  • By Fiber Type

There are  multimode and single-mode fiber optic pigtails.

Multimode pigtails are made with 62.5/125μm or 50/125μm fiber cables and terminated with multimode connectors. However, if we want to classify them in more detail, we can divide them into OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4, and OM5 pigtails.  Single mode pigtails are maded from  9/125μm OS1 or OS2  single mode fiber cables and terminated with single mode connectors.
